Actually software RAID has some good points going for it - except on
very high end systems (ie SAN based) hardware RAID basically adds a SPOF
- and in my experience that SPOF seems to be louse up more often than
the disks attached to it.

Correctly implemented s/w RAID with multiple channels to the disks (ie
typically separate IDE/SATA channels to the disks) is more resilient.

As anecdotal evidence I had a machine fail yesterday with what appears
to be a wobby in the on-board (major h/w vendor server class kit)
hardware RAID controller.

But we are somewhat off the subject of exim...
