AFAIK, there exist more than one method of doing delivery
receipts/confirmations, so 'not necessarily always'.

But the ones that ARE MUA relevant have been passing transparently
bothways thru our Exim for years.

SeaMonkey/Mozilla suite & derivativs, and MS Outlook as the more common
'players' at both/either end.
