The CFILEMODE is actually a meta-macro which controls
update-exim4.conf's behavior itself. I guess that's why it is the only
capitalized entry.
Just for the future, as this seems to be a quite common mistake, exim4
4.69-1 and further's update-exim4.conf is going to print a warning
when it sees macros defined in /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf (and
is going to do the right thing, putting the macro into the main
configuration).
Greetings
