Several folks here can no doubt help with ID'ing the problem, but for a
faster, and more 'drop-in' solution, you should be asking on the
Debian-specific Exim mailing list.

Links are in your package docs.

That because the 'exim4' configuration is done in a different manner
from generic Exim, and has numerous added variables, conditionals, and
tools not well tracked here.

On the bespoke list, Marc has probably seen this many times and already
has a straightforward solution.

It may even be in your docs.
