This is all part of an inherited legacy network which forms part of a store
and forward platform; we accept all email for users domains and then deliver
to either local mailbox on pop3 backend server or store and dequeue to
remote customers SMTP server when available. At this border point there is
email evaluation based on the likelihood of it being SPAM but this is only
scoring and not actual dropping of messages.
The new Exim srver which I put it to do AV (via ClamAV) scanning is now the
core server as it is more reliable compared to the historic Windows based!
server that was originally in there but what is presenting an issue is the
amount of SPAM that appears to get through and then bouncing causing us to
be on various SPAM lists.
Doing a call forward at the point this Exim server is in the network is not
possible cause a] the email has already been received by the border and b]
in the event that a users mailserver is offline then a call forward will not
be possible and we would normally be expected to hold this mail until the
customers server is responding.
I was just hoping that something was possible to reduce the amount of
bounced messages which results in this server being blacklisted
