It's all relative - if you have a 5TB partition, they're tiny. If you
only have a 4GB partition, they're large.
Why not do what Nigel said?
exim_tidydb /var/spool/exim retry
exim_tidydb /var/spool/exim wait-remote_smtp
or simply delete them.
