It is not generally ok, but sometimes you have to do things like that.
The bigger the organization, the lesser the chance of fixing IT
related issues at the root.
In the mean time, the proxy vendor has confirmed that they believe
their product is working as designed, and we'll probably fix the issue
by moving the system running exim out of the firewalled network.
