Well, currently the lowest spec from 1und1 would be an AMD Athlon
64x2 3800+ with 1GB RAM.
As I said correctly setting up spamd and clamd is probably the most
important thing to do: how many child processes they run. I was
getting complete server lockups last year with just one spamd child
process. Allowing up to 5 to run solved the problem immediately.
Best to keep the discussion on the list as I am by no means an expert
but profiling your applications should help you a lot. As someone
else has suggested, simply offloading spamd and clamd to another
machine might help.
