That's irrelevant. The mdns handling occurs in the DNS resolver, i.e.
between the nsswitch and bind.

Did you truss ping like I suggested? Did you run tcpdump to look for
bogus mdns traffic? The main problem that this will cause is performance
degradation related to the number of mdns lookups you do and the number
of mdns servers (mostly Macs) in the multicast group.
