I find this message from mail.gmx.net a bit cryptic. "Your domain"? There
shouldn't be any need for resolving gmx.de. I can only assume that they
mean "the domain part of your recipient". Which is hard to say anything about
since it's obfuscated.

This is lame, but maybe acceptable for an MSA. They apparently don't expect it
to talk to MTAs, only MUAs. I think you should configure Exim to send mail
with other sender addresses than your gmx.de address through your ISP's
mailserver if you can't send mail directly without involving a smarthost.
