I also noticed recently that hotmail are silently dropping emails I
send from my own server. Where the IP address is not listed on any
public DNSBL's, has valid RDNS and a single A record pointing back
to the same IP. Also, with valid SPF records.

My temporary workaround was to configure exim to smarthost email sent
by myself through my work email service, which seems to get through
every time. I'm thinking of setting up a gmail account for my server
called something like:

server.name@???

And then smarthosting all my hotmail mail through smtp.gmail.com port 587
which supports ASMTP and TLS.

I don't think I've ever seen a mail service as unreliable as hotmail's.
It's annoying to have to jump through hoops like this.
