Overnight I had the same thought.

The problem with this is that it worked for DLLs with 7.0. I'd rather
not downgrade the functionality. We know people like Sheri rely on it.
I think we should try to get the declspec correct. Brian said this:

I will work on this shortly and with luck produce -RC4 in a few hours
time for you to try. I will, of course, have made sure that it works on
Linux.
