Each SMTP connection spawns off a new process. Each process has to load
it's own perl interpreter. Unless you explicitly set it to load on
startup, it only loads when you use ${perl} for the first time.
Depending on your circumstances you might be better off writing a perl
daemon, and talking to it using ${readsocket}
