Looks to me like it blocks it.

Not directly. But have a look at:

http://www.pldaniels.com/altermime/

as noted elsewhere on this list, the above is a compact piece
of MIME-aware software that may make this kind of mime-mangling
possible. You'd probably need to run it from an exim transport
filter.
