It would actually be desireable to control more things (such as username,
password or the fact whether to authenticate in the first place) from the
transport. There are many things (for example Debian #403583, where exim fails
to authenticate with the normal auth mechanisms because the smarthost changes
its IP address between routing time and transport time) that would be easier if
this wishlist item would be addressed for 4.67 or 4.70.
