[exim] increase smtp connections

Currently our new exim box does not seem to accept as many emails as the
old box and I was told to increase the amount of concurrent smtp
connections. I have googled this high and low and have not been able to
come up with anything. The majority of our mail is being accepted by our
secondary servers and the connection to the web is fine here, not much
load on the server either. Where would I increase the amount of smtp
connections to our server?
