Oh dear. Yes, it would. Apologies for my wonky suggestion. I do use
lsearch* myself but not for system aliases, only for "virtual" domains
as per
http://www.exim.org/exim-html-4.62/doc/html/spec_html/ch46.html#SECTvirtualdomains
