I'm surprised. You are looking for the exact text "^Date:" which I
would not expect ever to be found. Perhaps you mean

if $message_headers matches "(?m)^Date:"

or

if $message_headers matches "\\\\nDate:"

Presumably because it isn't the right condition. :-)
