Because, if I'm reading this right, that only affects bounces with permanent
errors. In the case of a temporary error (e.g. bounce back to a spammer's
spoofed address, where they don't even accept SMTP connections) that wouldn't
help. What I'm trying to achieve is that such messages are only retried a few
times (and don't stay on the queue for long) before being discarded.
Eventually I hope to not even have these bounce messages to deal with in the
first place, but that's an exercise for another day.
