Others have told you why you should upgrade. The reason it wasn't
upgraded when you installed Sarge was that the current version of Exim
is packaged as "exim4" in Debian, while the "exim" package still
contains the obsolete and unsupported version 3. "exim4" is the default
MTA installed in new Sarge installs, but if you were upgrading an older
Debian system, it won't replace your installed "exim" package.
