Hmm, looking more closely it seems that what you previously described as
"aliases" (which I assumed to be implemented via /etc/aliases or some
similar mechanism) are actually virtual users. Perhaps you should change
your virtual users router so that aliases are handled by Exim rather than
in the SQL. Or change your vacation router so that it does the necessary
SQL lookup.
