While I'm sure Oracle is better today then it was ~10 years ago,
back in '96 I worked for SoftSwitch[1], who produced and sold an
email switch appliance, whose datastore was based on Oracle.

It was more hassle than it was worth. When I left, I was under
the impression that the product was moving to a flatfile solution,
and a couple of years later it didn't matter; as smtp became
pervasive the market for their product pretty much went away.

[1] Which was then bought by Lotus, which was then bought by
IBM.
