But if my maildirs are assembled like "/somewhere/$domain/$local_part"
and one of my users decides to create the mailbox ".Junk@mydomain"? :o)

Hmm, that would only work reasonable as long as ".Mail" is a fixed string.
OTOH something like
subfolder_delivery_regex = ^/somewhere/.*/.*/\.
would always work, I think.
