Suggest you leave the original headers alone, add what you need
in an X-header, 'act' on that X-header.
*Then* when finished, *remove* the specialty X-header, letting
your logs keep track (if need be) of what has transpired, but
not necessarily exposing all the 'who-struck-John' to the
end-user's MUA.
Do a 'view all headers' on any post to this list for an example
of what happens when working headers aren't kept 'in house'.
