Hello all:

I got listed on the CBL. (http://cbl.abuseat.org).

Now my own provider won't let me mail through and this list is
rejecting mail from my subscribed address. I hope this note might make
it through.

They claim that their protocol "only lists IP addresses that are
demonstrably infected by a mass mailing virus, or some sort of spam
sending compromise (open proxy, trojan, spambot, insecure
AnalogX/wingate etc)."

Upon yet another inspection, I see no evidence that any machine on this
network has been highjacked by any sort of malware. (There are three
machines here, generally, two running Debian and one knoppix).

I suspect that my sins are twofold: (1) I'm on a cable modem;
and (2) apparently my port 25 smtp server is answering as
localhost, although the firewall at the router is supposed to
block all but one address outside our LAN, here. Here is an
excerpt from the log:

    2006-03-03 02:15:38 1FF7Jy-000487-Ds <= hesco@???
U=hesco P=local S=384
    2006-03-03 02:15:39 1FF7Jy-000487-Ds **
helocheck@??? R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp: SMTP error from
remote mail server after RCPT TO:<helocheck@???>: host
mail.cbl.abuseat.org [216.168.28.54]: 550 Your HELO name for IPaddress
24.67.197.93 was "localhost.localdomain"

I edited /etc/exim4//etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf to delete the
reference to localhost, then restarted the mail server, but that does
not seem to help here.

So my question is this? Where do I change what, so my machine no longer
answers as localhost to smtp queries?
