No, it wasn't.

No. That's essentially what I use (on a Linux box). Another check would
be to run ldd on the Exim binary. You should see something like this in
the output:

libmysqlclient.so.14 => /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.so.14 (0xb7bf8000)
