As an aside to this, you can actually turn the stuff back on, if you
have a machine with oodles of ram. You just stick it in a ramdisk.

A load average of 229 would suggest something is going silly, as Josh
mentioned above you can check to see if there are lots of lockfiles
competing for exclusive ownership of Bayes and AWL databases (which is
how I found it to be hammering the system I was working on).
