I don't know much about SunOS, but with glibc there is /etc/ld.so.conf,
listing the directories to look in for libs. So if /usr/local/lib is not
in there, you have to tell the path in this way.

4.5 in the spec. Don't know if it's needed in an average setup (whatever
that means), though.
