I'm told that these are the correct values for /etc/rc.conf, from
"man rc.sendmail" on 5.4-STABLE, iff you wish to completely shut down
sendmail:

sendmail_enable="NO"
sendmail_submit_enable="NO"
sendmail_outbound_enable="NO"
sendmail_msp_queue_enable="NO"

It's not clear to me if the OP wants to shut down sendmail
entirely. But "NONE" is deprecated, according to that manual.

The hoststat bits look like this:

daily_clean_hoststat_enable="NO" # No notices re: /var/spool/.hoststat

in /etc/periodic.conf because I don't want to see the notices; but I
dont' recall what the purgestat bits do.

To the OP: after you have finished installing Exim, I recommend to you
the documentation that you *also* (ie, separately) install...you can
find this in the /usr/ports/mail/ directory, immediately beneath the
Exim port.
