i've gotten a workaround from a user on the info-cyrus list.
fyi, i've added it to a bug report here:
https://bugzilla.andrew.cmu.edu/show_bug.cgi?id=2729
hopefully, a little more digging/understanding will reveal whether the fix -- in fact --
addresses the getpeername() issue you'd suggested.
