Through port 25? Then it isn't blocked by a firewall. Maybe the traffic is
so high that the connection is timing out? Could it just be that your users
have email addresses that just do get loads of spam?

Anyway, to reduce the spam, you should check out the documentation on ACLs
and DNSBL.
