Bear in mind that we are looking for a smarthost here, so it is only
one host name per exim, which will at most have ~10 A records for a
_very_ big ISP, and these A records would be cached pretty fast. I
suspect that a passwd.client file with more than 20 entries would be
_extraordinary_ exotic. Additionally, I sincerely hope that exim
caches auth credentials once obtained.
