As mentioned in the other reply, use the PAM authentication
configuration as outlined in the Wiki. Then, when you do move to LDAP,
simply use the PAM ldap shim (nss_ldap) and you won't have to change
anything on your systems with Exim, Samba, Courier, etc. - let the PAM
package do all the LDAP work for you.
