[exim] anyone built libspf2 on OSX 10.4.1 for use with exim?

hi all,

i might as well ask here as well ... (i've posted more details on libspf2 list)

i'm attempting to build libspf2 on OSX 10.4.1 for use w/ exim 4.51

make is failing there w/:

    ...
    ar cru .libs/libreplace.a
    ar: no archive members specified
    ...

there are known, google-able 'issues' w/ Darwin's "ar" ... just wondering if
anyone here's gotten past them ...
