Perhaps it would be better if you could tell us exactly how the
sendmail and qmail (I think was the other) systems are setup for
authentication. Are you absolutely sure that all systems involved
are doing the same thing... to a touch more clear on that question,
Do the sendmail and qmail systems use POP before SMTP???
