I guess I'm relying on the fact that if someone has whitelisted the sender
it is more than likely that the sender is genuine, even if their emails are somewhat
spam-like. Whereas if no-one has whitelisted, they are rejected at smtp time.
I guess that is where SPF/DK comes into play as well, or at least it can offer an idea
of whether dropping the message or replying is the better option.

We used to, but that's a no-no because you generate collateral spam
to the sender address (which is often a forgery). I'm waiting for the
flood of other answers to that question :-)
