'fraid not. This has been on the Wish List for almost 2 years now.
Somehow other things have always been more urgent, and people seem on
the whole to be using the "exiscan" facilities for scanning more and
more.
In retrospect, it was probably a bad idea to flatten newlines, but I
thought I was being helpful so that people could search for phrases and
find them even if they did happen to span a line break.
