Right, that makes sense. However, I don't think cp.com is relevant (that
just happens to be where the canada.com email is running through), because
any posts from any email account are being similarly rejected. I even tried
sending an email from the command line ("exim4 -v croissues@???")
to the list from the same machine, and got a similar error in
/var/log/exim4/mainlog:

That's what I put when prompted by dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config, and that's
what is in /etc/mailname. But it does seem as if exim doesn't know its name.
My /var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated has the following lines, if this is
relevant:
