I, for one, would like to see patches like that either in the source,
or perhaps have a patch repository on the exim site for users to share
patches.

While its not the job of the MTA to handle obscure, bad, or old MUAs,
it is the job of the MTA administrator to get them to work in
environments where you can't say "That is old. Upgrade to ______" or
"That program is bad. You should be using this ____".

Fortunately, I'm in an environment where I can dictate what people run
as MUAs -- but I've been in places where that is decided by purchasing
departments or mindless midlevel management who want a certain feature.
