I had the same problem. As a quick fix, I now do:

sed -e "s/, 0750, /, 0770, /" src/spool_mbox.c > src/spool_mbox.sed &&
mv src/spool_mbox.sed src/spool_mbox.c

as part of my exim build script.

It would be nice if this was a configurable value, but I've not had the
time to create and submit a patch or request.
