If your goal is to communicate securely with a group of other
protestors/whistleblowers/whatever, then you don't have to change the whole
world, just your little piece of it. People are already using PGP or S/MIME
successfully for this kind of thing.
The tools are there to do this right. Anything else is like driving a nail
with a screwdriver handle. Yeah, it sorta works, but the results aren't
pretty and you can never really count on it.
