As you might have noticed, exim is a base package. base happens to be
frozen for a couple of months now, and is not likely to be unfrozen
any time soon.

Thus, it is better to have this fix backported to the package
currently in Debian so that sarge (if ever released) can profit from
the fix.

4.4x packages for experimental are currently being prepared. The
maintainers would like to delay the point from where two versions of
the package need to be supported as far as possible.

sarge will release with 4.34. Period. I don't like that, but that's
the way Debian works. If, if only, we would make any noticeable
progress with the release.
