A lot, but not all. I get several bounces every day for spams or
viruses that was rejected after DATA somewhere. Admittedly, the
numbers are small compared to total count of spam and bounces generated
by stupid virus scanners who create bounces on their own based on the
return path, From:, or whatever.
However, fact remains that they are indeed an annoyance. And I don't
want to contribute making that particular annoyance even more
prevalent than it is today.

I wasn't referring to open relays, but normal forwarding services.
For instance, tore@??? is accepted by the MXes for debian.org
then forwared to tore@???. If the linpro.no MXes 550 the
message, the debian.org egress MXes are stuck with the possibly
undeliverable bounce.
Here's a quote from a discussion I had about this very topic with one
of the people behind postmaster@???, a perfect example of the
person I said would hate you above:
«do you think I'm wound up about this for fun? or maybe it's because
debian.org postmaster address is now basically fucking useless thanks
to the combination of a) fuckwits with AV filters, and b) fuckwits
with 550-ing afer DATA»
