Actually, most of the school districts DO get their Internet service
directly from the state.

There are lots of T1s (and probably T3s) running around carrying wednet.edu
traffic (Washington Education NETwork, I think.) Other "stuff" shares the
T1s with the email (instructional material, bureaucratic stuff, HTTP access
to the world, etc). [There's a T1 from Chimacum Middle school to the new
elementary school in Port Hadlock (5 minute drive...the T1 crosses a telco
boundary, which gave Chris many headaches during installation). Quite a
change from 1994, when Chimacum was authorized to relay outbound mail
through our server.]

Seattle schools are conspicuously absent from wednet.
