That's a little too prescriptive, and looking at it the wrong way round
imho. The key thing you're trying to ensure is that clamav can read exim's
spool files, not that exim has control of clamav.
Run clamav as its own user, which also owns /var/run/clamav/*. Make that
user also a member of the exim *group* and add AllowSupplementaryGroups to
clamav.conf.
Before either Andreas or Stephen pop up and point it out :-) this is exactly
the method recommended for the Debian packages of exim4 and clamav, and
works very well.
