I used the pop-before-smtp.pl script at
http://popbsmtp.sourceforge.net/ rather than using whoson.
Configure it to use the 'sendmail' database driver and make it write
its db file to /etc/exim/popauth, and then add
net-dbmnz;/etc/exim/popauth.db
to the line "hostlist relay_from_hosts =".
You'll need to also configure pop-before-smtp to monitor your
/etc/maillog for POP3/IMAP connections.
