A user with a laptop on our local LAN tries doing:
telnet mailhost.cs.huji.ac.il 25
It takes several minutes to respond and in the meantime the Exim 4.34 server
logs the following:
SMTP protocol violation: synchronization error (input sent without waiting for greeting): rejected connection ...
1. telnet mailhost.cs.huji.ac.il (without the "25") responds immediately with
the telnet login prompt.
2. telnet to port 25 on non-Exim mailservers from the same laptop gets an
immediate response.
3. DNS lookup (and reverse lookup) of the laptop on the Exim servers gives
an immediate (and correct) response.
Any ideas?
