I am not so sure you can do that. Why don't you consider generating the
data from mysql into some file and using that file for lookup?
You may even be able to create other forms of DB (cdb, dbm) from what
you get from MySQL. If you do this periodically (via cron) at reasonable
intervals, then you possibly don't have any need for two lookups.

I know someone on this list who does what I have mentioned. I am not
naming names.
However, I still believe that his approach is dandy!
