I have done some searches and the only function that uses big_buffer
to *return* a value seems to be host_and_ident. I have also searched
for other possible corruptions of big_buffer by using host_and_ident:

grep -sr -B 100 big_buffer src | grep host_and_ident

and it looks like the only one is the one I reported.

I cannot say that that is the only instance of function that *uses*
big_buffer at all and that gives this reentrancy problem. I hope so.
