You posted this less that 24 hours ago, and have already had several
responses pointing you to the rfc1413 ident settings in Exim. Did you follow
the suggestions?

This problem is almost certainly ident-related. Turn it off, or lower the
timeout signficantly - you'll find that the delay your user is seeing will
reduce with the timeout value you set.
